Favorite Wine: Viognier

First plantings 2002, followed by open facilities in 2008 in a stunning, back road mountains and lakeside setting. On the day we visited the $8 tasting included seven vinifera wines plus two others for sale, but not available for tasting ($50 2013 Cab Franc & $30 2012 Viognier dessert wine). Here we found a pleasant, crisp 2016 Viognier ($26). The $28 2015 Cabernet Franc was a bit thin, disappointing and should not have been offered. Compared to other outstanding Virginia Petit Verdots, we found Pollak's 2015 $30 example light in color and not typical to varietal taste. A bread, cheese and jam fare is available for inside or outside seating.

Favorite Wine: '08 Cab Franc; ’08 Meritage; ’09 Durant White

I want to say from the very start that Pollak is a fabulous vineyard. Pollak has everything you could want from a trip to the vineyard. It is a beautiful piece of property with a great seating area that overlooks a pond. It has a grand, open tasting room that offers wide views and gorgeous sunlight. There are about nine wines (5 whites and 4 reds for $5) and the option of getting a cheese plate with homemade jam (with ½ baguette for $14, and a whole for $16, so go with the whole). Their wines are well-balanced, full, and complex. If you are planning a wine tasting adventure in the Nelson/Crozet area, go to Pollak. You won’t regret it.

Pollak Vineyards is one of our absolute favorites stops on the wine trail in Charlottesville. The wines are fantastic, and the service in the tasting room unparalleled. You can tell all the staff enjoy what they do and the industry! While they don't sell anything but wine here, there are plenty of tables inside and out and you are allowed to bring a picnic or cheese plate, but please do clean up after yourself! We love both their Estate whites and reds, so don't ask me which wines are best there - you'll just have to go and taste them yourselves!!! Located just 15 minutes west of Charlottesville, they are easy to locate, and on the way you can stop at Greenwood Grocery and pick up your picnic or cheese plate to enjoy there!
