Favorite Wine: Norton
We visited Horton again today seven years after our other visit in 2010. This time the Norton was much better for us. Quite delightful actually. The Petit Verdot was very nice as well. The best Petit Verdot of three we tried this day. By a wide margin too. Ted, who claimed he had only been at Horton for a month was surprisingly knowledgeable. Perhaps he is only new to Horton. In any event his enthusiasm was fun. Overall we liked their reds over their whites. The Pinotage did not disappoint I should add.

Favorite Wine: Norton Port
The wines here are quite enjoyable. Their Vionier was quite good as expected, as well as their Norton. As I've tasted elsewhere, Norton makes and outstanding Port, and theirs was no different.

Favorite Wine: Pinotage
If you want selection, this place has everything under the sun. Unfortunately, I think having so many varieties affects the quality of any single wine. Also, we've had varying experiences with the staff that work there. Sometimes they were very good, and other times they were not as nice.

Favorite Wine: Pinotage
We visited the winery in August 2010. Like others have noted there were a lot of sweet wines which are not our favorites. As far as the Norton, it was not in the style I traditionally like. It was sort of raisiny and cooked. Maybe it was just a bad sample at the tasting bar. The two reds we liked better than the others were the Tannat and the Pinotage. My wife liked the Tannat better. For me it was the Pinotage. Again, though, we liked both. Will purchase more of these two. Probably will give the Norton another shot but I suspect that the winemaker here is aiming for a different style than we personally like. I like more of a fruit forward and oak expression. The reds here in general seem to be going more for the earth tones. The wine tasting room experience was less than average for us in that the help didn't seem real enthused. Sort of just going through the motions.

Favorite Wine: The sweet one...oh wait that is all of them!! Yuck
Well if you have a sweet tooth than this is the Winery for you!! If you like reds then don't even stop the car...keep going. It is wonderful to walk into a winery and they ask you what you want to taste. (I don't know I have NEVER been here before??!?) It would be nice to be pointed in a direction by someone who works there. The really have the wines that taste like every other fruit in the world ... well maybe not grape. I do have to give Horton props for bring back Norton but that is about all I can do.

Norton Wine Review: This is a winery that successfully attempts to offer an extensive selection of locally grown grapes and produced wines. As for their Norton wine, I would say that Horton's mission is to introduce to the general public a good Norton blended wine (75% Norton, 13% Mourvedre, 6% Syrah, 4% Tannat, 3% Grenache) at a fair price and to this they unquestionably succeed. Norton wine is not a wine that most people automatically love to drink, but generally learn to enjoy after comparing with other local wines or other Norton wines. This Norton is a good starter (only $12) and then refine your taste to other available selections. Norton wines tend to be a developed taste which takes a bit of getting use to in enjoying. The first small sip taste generally is tart or sour, followed by a more acceptable palate, etc. When visiting the Horton Vineyards, give yourself ample time to taste and relax. It will be crowded, but the servers are very patient and pick up quickly on your likes and dislikes.

Favorite Wine: Rkatsiteli
This was our favorite vineyard, if for no other reason than the tasting was free. :) They had the widest variety of wines and probably the favorite of all the wines we tasted, the Rkatsiteli. Very imformative employees and a lot of fun to visit.

Cool place. Visited back in early 2000s. Dennis was friendly and the place was very laidback. Horton's Norton was the fav. Interestingly enough Larry Stone gave some good reviews of the wine.

Favorite Wine: Late Harvest Viognier
Excellent wine selection, we found several desert wines that my wife enjoyed, couple of semi-dry whites suitable for sharing with friends, and reds for that special dinner. The folks there were great. They have a super tasting bar that will get you hooked. I would return again
