Favorite Wine: Nebbelio
This is supposed to be Virginia's most awarded winery. After visiting, I know why. The customers were continually being told by the servers what made the wines great, leaving the drinker no way to decide for themselves. I wasn't fooled. I wasn't impressed when they told me of the Italian immigrants that planted Italian vines here. Notice - this isn't Italy. The wines at best were mediocre. If you want Italian wine, go to the local wine store and you can get something much better. If they want to make better wine, instead of imposing foreign vines upon this soil, find out what works first! Ok, having said all of that, the Nebbelio was good, but their award winning Octogon wasn't.

Been there once when first began visiting wineries. Need to return since my tastes and opinions of wines have developed since my first visit.

Favorite Wine: Octagon 2004.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. We have been countless times and love it each and every time we go. I understand that the weekends are crazy so I avoid them at all cost. I have done a vertical tasting, newly release wines, and special event at Barboursville. I love the tasting bar with the big wooden barrels above us and the knowledgeable staff serving/pouring the wine. I have learned a great deal by listening and talking to the staff. I find the Octagon room to be fascinating and fun to roam around in. I absolutely love the ruins on the property. I was engaged at the ruins last August 2009.

Wonderful three ring circus. No relaxation here, just pure unadulterated sales push. Tasted quite a few wines and in a blind tasting with my wife, I chose the $32 Nebbiolo and my wife selected the $40 Octagon wine. Good enough to purchase? No. Left with a Sauvignon Blanc and a pot holder as a souvenir of getting out of this place alive and with our wallets still in tact. It was amazing how they pushed through so many people. $4.00 fee for tasting glass does not apply to wine purchase(s). We left our glasses there.

Favorite Wine: Phileo
We've always loved Barboursville, but it can get quite crowded and rushed, and you're forced to move from tasting station to station. On our last visit, we booked a reservation at the restaurant and had a lovely, leisurely lunch, with plenty of great wines to try and enjoy.

Haven't visted yet, but have enjoyed the wines on several occasions.

We enjoy visiting Barboursville. The design for tasting has the guest moving down the wine bar which works well when not too crowded. The wines are nice, but there is lots of competition now as we have so many wonderful wineries in the area! Tasting fee includes the glass, and the restuarant is excellent.

Favorite Wine: Vintage Rose
Enjoyed the experience and the history of the site. The ruins of the house designed by Thomas Jefferson was an added bonus. Very busy on the day we were there, but they were able to handle the crowd with grace.

The owners are from Italy.. a bit "big" on themselves, but always had a nice experience there. Haven't been there since 2004, actually owned 30 acres of land across from them for a while. Sold it to the winery as my plans to open a B&B faded. Non the less, good wines. Nice place to spend an afternoon... cool ruins.

This winery has too much going on. The wine tasting lacked structure, it was incredibly chaotic and unenjoyable. Couple that with wine that isn't "great" - it made for a lousy experience. We will not be returning.
