Paying up front for a tasting was a first for me. Good wines. A great pairing the day I went. Beautiful scenery and a good place to taste some wine.

Favorite Wine: Barrel Twenty-Nine
Excellent experience. We are no wine connoisseurs, but this winery had something for everyone in the group. Loved the relaxed friendly environment. Nothing pushy and despite our limited wine knowledge the staff did an excellent job explaining each tasting to our understanding level. Perfect weekend trip. We are looking forward for the weather to break so we can enjoy an afternoon of wine on their patio.

Taken many trips to Galen Glen. Truly a hidden jewel in Pennsylvania wines. It is tucked away in the shadow of the Blue Mountain. A short drive from the Valley, but well worth it. The winery staff is among the friendliest, most polite, and helpful around. They have added a second cash register to remedy the long lines at wine sales, which really was the only qualm I had with the winery. Food and wine pairings here are always excellent. The dumplings and vidal blanc pairing I had at March Madness was out of this world. They always have the most original pairings on the trail. The view from the tasting room and back porch is breathtaking. Sitting out back on a summer day enjoying a glass of wine is a perfect way to spend a weekend. The winemakers dinners (available to case club customers first) are always a blast. The 5 course meal is always well put together and the wine pairings are spot on. I especially enjoy the soups. Now on to the wines. I have yet to come in contact with a flawed wine here. Not all of their wines suit my tastes, but there is not a flawed wine on their list. I personally am more of a white wine person, enjoying their Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer the most. On the red side, the 2008 Chambourcin is among the best I have encountered on the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail. If you like ports, the new vintage of Barrel 29 with chocolate is delectable. Moving on to dessert wines, the Vidal Blanc Ice Wine is the real steal. Any Eiswein enthusiast knows how pricy these wines are due to the painstaking process to make this treat. This wine has an incredible nose, and when it hits the tongue it does not disappoint. It explodes with tropical flavors (apricots, pineapple) and finishes clean. A comparable bottle of Eiswein would probably fetch 80 dollars. In closing, the owners are very focused on improving their product and overall experience, as evidenced by their planting of Gruner Veltliner. Cannot recommend this winery enough.

Favorite Wine: Erin's Auslese
The scenic drive to Galen Glen set the tone for our visit to this beautiful winery reminiscent of the old world wineries I had recently visited while on business in Europe. We instantly felt like valued customers the minute we walked through the large wooden door and the friendly winery staff greeted us with a well organized tasting list of the locally grown and produced wines. We arrived around sunset so the breathtaking scenery visible through the large tasting room windows ended up forming the perfect backdrop for our tasting. I rediscovered the meaning of "terroir" while enjoying their impressively crafted Riesling and Grüner Veltiner. I am not sure if it was my shock from the taste bud rejuvenation delivered by the well balanced acidity and lingering fruit tones of the Riesling or the subtle but knowledgeable urging of the tasting room assistant that drove me to adventure out of my normal tasting range, regardless the gamble paid off with the Erin's Auslese. We were all impressed with its vibrant aroma and flitting sweetness. I finished my tasting with a recently released red wine, Claret, that just seemed to perfectly blend ubiquitous drinkability with remarkable complexity that made it a first round draft pick for our collective case purchase. All in all it was very refreshing for me and my group of fellow professionals from the Lehigh Valley to find worldwide competitive wines we had previously thought were only accessible by driving to Philadelphia or New York City or jumping onto a plane to California right here in our backyard at Galen Glen. Before we left we made sure to add our names to their email list that informs us about upcoming events like food and wine pairing dinners and full winery tours. On the way home I couldn't help but find myself adding Galen Glen's location into the favorites section of my GPS. Excellent weekend!
