Favorite Wine: 2012 Chambourcin
Second visit to Post Familie in two years, and was not disappointed. I like that this little winery outpost serves nice lunches but also allows bringing picnic food into the grounds if they're not serving. This is the only winery that produces a wine bottle with a screen printed label that I cannot throw away. The 2012 Chambourcin is fantastic and I have a hard time wanting to drink it because I like the bottle art so much. The Norton isn't that great, but the Chambourcin is really quite nice. Great setting, friendly folks in an otherwise unfriendly landscape.

Favorite Wine: Ives
Post has just finished construction on a new tasting room. The staff is very friendly and the give impromptu tour if asked. I do think the sweeter wines from this area can be best.

Norton Wine Review: Though 27ish wine variations were offered, only the grapes of Cynthiana, Delaware, Vignoles, Vidal Blanc, Prophecy, Ives Noir and different muscadine grapes came from this vineyard’s property. In our case, we were only interested in trying PFV’s drier wines produced from their own harvested properties. Their Vignoles produced in stainless steel tanks was bright, but quickly decayed on the back of the palate. The Prophecy wine had only been available for a few years and it was obvious that the vintners are still searching for the possibilities of this new grape. Their disappointing 100% Cynthiana [Norton] wine produced in stainless steel tanks using “a little oak chipping†turned out to be quite thin and lacking character. Under a different label (St. John Winery) they produced boxed wines and offered them on 50% off specials for only $7.50. At that price, their boxed Cabernet Sauvignon would have been the only wine that we would have considered purchasing.

The Post Familie Vineyards offers a atmosphere that is great, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the wines, also for those who want a little mystery; the winemaker has developed his own hybrid wine that is unique and one that I enjoyed trying.
